What would you choose?
MSRP for a 2014 BMW 535i starts at $55,...and some shit. Im pretty sure i dont have to go into details about this vehicle.
My very first car was a 1986 535i that was at a junkyard of a guy my dad knows. Because i got it running, it was now mine to keep, yay :] Later on down the road I found myself in a 1990 525i automatic with the M20 engine. It was the slowest car in the universe but oh how i loved it. Shortly after the sweet Alpina B10 conversion (excluding BiTurbo engine) my engine literally exploded with 412,666 miles on the ticker.
The question is, for that price, you can also find yourself in...
AAAAAAAND!!!!!!
Although i have a soft spot for the 535i, fuck that sheeeet, gimmie the ST and FRS now!!! :]
What's your you pick? What else NEW would you get for $55,ooo ish?

I like your choices.
I very much want to own both of those.

I'm not classy enough for a BMW so give me some of dat STBRZ!

I would take the 55,000$ and buy two cars. First would be a 2004 VW R32. I would then find a rear end totaled 2013 Golf R and do an engine swap. I figure that would put me out about 25k ish. THEN I would take the other 30k and source a nicely maintained Datsun 510 body, import in an SR20DET along with transmission and other modern components and build it up as a 6 speed RWD restomod with all the modern luxuries in the classic 510 body. Then I would Sit in my driveway and stare at that for a good hour as I try to decide which one I want to drive first.

I was in for the second option before I realized it also came with a Toyobaru.

Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. Found used for $54,999.

Gimme the Scion, the BMW and the Ford have way too many doors for me.

55k? Buy an Elise and a nice looking E39 540i manual with one of those m-sport front bumpers. Keep the change for gas money and tires.

yeah true, never a 2 door dude myself. if anything, i've been more of a 5 door kinda guy lol :]
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:11 |
|
sweeeet Jaaag, but rules are new only buddy :]
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:11 |
|
me too, but too broke lol :] Just bothered me sorta seeing soo many out on the street and thinking, duuude, you could of had 2 awesome cars
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:11 |
|
Yes, I saw that you asked "what else NEW" would you get - and I ignored that. Buying a new car is stupid, unless there's a tax benefit in it for you.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:11 |
|
very good point sir :]
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:12 |
|
aww, well then in the spirit of the game, what 2 new vehicles would you get over 1 535i?
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:15 |
|
you...are a genius :]
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:17 |
|
exactly, i'll never want any new car, but i just get the thinkin when i see dull humans in a 535i's driving by thinking...... they could of had an ST and BRZ and be happy :]
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:18 |
|
My bad, didn't read that. :p
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:18 |
|
Hmmmm.... This is going to require some thought. You put out a couple very good choices, that I would be quite happy with. Can I get away with this?
1. MazdaSpeed3
2. Fiesta ST
Edit: Replace either one with a Miata. Can't figure out which one.
That's off the top of my head, there might be more favorable combos out there.

I actually grew up used to two doors because, back when I was a kid, there was kind of a media scare in Brazil about small kids opening the rear doors with the car in movement and falling off, so two door cars ended up becoming far more popular.
Even if you did not buy the rumors back then, ordering a two doors was much faster and cheaper than ordering a four doors, so people just kind of did that.

its cool buddy, do you have 2 different new fun cars you'd get over one 535i?
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:20 |
|
niiice, with a little cash to spare on goodies. Well done sir :]
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:20 |
|
Not sure if this counts because production stopped but I would get one of the last new 335s on the dealer lots.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:21 |
|
Just updated when I remembered the answer is always Miata and it's only 24k.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:23 |
|
wow, i did that when i was like 5. We were actually just pulling up to the house and i wanted to get a head start to watch something on TV, so i opened the door and fell out. Luckily my mom was already stopping and i didn't get too hurt, but i did want to open it much sooner. good thing i didn't.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:25 |
|
that is correct sir, let me check with the judgeeesss....aaaaand yes, very good choice that just flew by my mind. With a little cash spare for goodies :]
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:26 |
|
Miata will replace which choice though?
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:26 |
|
Definitely a Miata and Mazdaspeed3.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:27 |
|
oh dayum, very good choices sir, well done :]
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:27 |
|
Damn, I really wasn't expecting that, haha....
The scare was more about kids opening the doors while in highway speeds or heavy traffic though.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:28 |
|
That's the problem.... I don't want to replace either, but there's no point in me having two FWD hot hatches, is there?
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:28 |
|
yeah dude, i'd be scared as hell also if my kid did that.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:29 |
|
well, yeah sorta... idk? Better than just one BMW that you always see being driven by boring manager types.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:30 |
|
New? Meh. Anyway, for the price of one 535i I'd get a BRZ and a practical and comfortable wagon. Not a Focus ST as the overlap with the BRZ would be too great. Peugeot 508 wagon with a diesel?
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:34 |
|
Well since you let some others pick out something else, I think I would have to go with the BRZ, and a Harley Road Glide. Rides are getting too long for a Street Bob, and I could finally really chop mine and still have something big and comfy for long rides.
Plus then I get all rear wheel drive, and I still have cash for some goodies.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:34 |
|
Absolutely. Too heavy. I'd rather just buy the MS3 and keep the BMW I already have, put $10k into fixing it up a bit.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:35 |
|
I feel ya with the whole 'new car" dilemma, but good choices none the less sir. We dont have Poo-Joe's in Murica but i see then a lot in Mexico DF :] We are missing out as always
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:39 |
|
Exactly sir, dayum that's badass. Keep that in mind next time you see that dull looking person in the 5er or E-Class. Other choices were in the question fyi hehe :] Mustang GT and a Harley Roadster was in my mind as well.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 17:42 |
|
New cars, sadly... :(
![]() 10/18/2013 at 18:14 |

Morgan 3-Wheelers are pretty awesome, and I'd use the leftover cash for a tarp for when it rains
![]() 10/18/2013 at 18:16 |
|
DAYUM!!!! That's what im talking about duuude. Why do sooo many middle aged boss types now rolling around in these happy instead of their mandatory German executive saloon all grumpy and dull.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 18:18 |
|
![]() 10/18/2013 at 18:21 |
|
Ummmmm yeah see those cars would be NEW to me. and no New car in that price range would ever excite me as much as those cars would. The Datsun restomod would be so perfect it would be better than new.
![]() 10/18/2013 at 18:29 |
|
Not necessarily my top choices seeing as how I'd rather have an MB CL or CLS class AMG with low mile and a nice warranty. But for the sake of the game, here are a few to start with
Audi TTS
A5 2.0T couple or convertable
Chrysler 300 SRT8
Challenger SRT8
![]() 10/18/2013 at 18:35 |
|
300 SRT8 core plus goodies... i like your thinking :]

"What's your you pick? What else NEW would you get for $55,ooo ish?"
I guess we all have different interpretations of the last sentence of the article and "New".
![]() 10/19/2013 at 01:02 |

Nope I'm just saying the car would be new to me...new to my life.
